Diversity in Wine
H
ave I really already thirty weird labels in this section? Seems so, and yet new ones still keep appearing in the wine stores. Thank goodness!
Enjoy the following....
Goats do Roam
|
South Africa
|
|
Fairview keeps goats from whose milk they make cheese. This punning name relates to the day the owner's son let the goats out of their enclosure to wander among the surrounding vines. They chose to eat the best tastiest fruit. The varieties they enjoyed inspired this blend of Shiraz, Cinsaut, Pinotage, Carignan and Mouvredre.

Party 1999
Marks and Spencer exclusive
|
Heurault France |
Looking like a newspaper cutting, this label is unashamedly aimed at
those looking for party plonk.
The back label reads in part "The kind of easy drinking relaxed drinking style you need to see the century out. Young (from this years harvest) but very smooth with just the right amount of ripe juicy fruit to slip down effortlessly as the last few minutes tick by. Keeping - don't even think about it. This is wine of 1999 for 1999. Start the party season as soon as possible by making the most of this wine until the next century. Oh, if you must! This wine will keep a further three months, but who wants to be seen with last years model?
This wine has style by the bucket load. The kind of easy drinking relaxed drinking style you need to see the century out. Young (from this years harvest) but very smooth with just the right amount of ripe juicy fruit to slip down effortlessly as the last few minutes tick by.

The Original Z
|
Italy
|
|
They re-designed the label before I could get one. The previous vintage was called The Original Zin. As well as the pun, the name refers to the grape used - Primitivo - which is now considered to be identical to the famous Zinfandel grape of California. But the US objects to the usage and does not allow Italian wine made from Primitivo to be labelled as Zinfandel in the US.

Tolley
Hope Valley
|
Australia
|
|
How old is this label? Well, it came from a bottle of 1990 vintage
Cabernet Sauvignon.
It was released to commemorate the one hundredth
anniversary of Tolley in 1992 (1882-1992) with replica of its original label.
Many thanks to Murray Almond in Australia for submitting this label. Murray says "the 1990 was fantastic."
